ABOUT THE ROLE

Cohley is searching for a high energy, entrepreneurial Engineering Manager to join our fast growing development team. In this key role, you will be responsible for growing and scaling all elements of the development process and team. The ideal candidate has a strong technical and management background with a passion for growing teams. 

You are highly collaborative, and have a strong track record of putting in place best practices so that engineering teams can deliver consistently with high quality. You’re excited by the challenge of working cross-functionally at a fast-paced, hyper-growth company. Reporting to our Founder, this is a high-visibility, high-impact role where you will partner closely with engineering, quality assurance, design, and product management teams. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical:

  • Work directly with the engineering, product, design, and QA teams to implement best practices and processes 
  • Advise product on the complexity, level of effort, maintainability and scalability of new features
  • Create and enforce software development processes that balance delivery velocity with code quality
  • Oversee the research and development of new products and procedures
  • Provide visibility into technical debt and work with product to prioritize correctly
  • Ensure sound architectural design by both leading and facilitating technical conversations and decisions
  • Ability to understand accurate timelines for delivery of products and help the team meet those deadlines
  • Partner with product to create roadmaps, determine priorities, and set goals
  • Constantly identify external vendors that will improve the productivity of the team, implement new vendors, and evaluate existing vendors. 

Team:

  • Implement engineering interview and onboarding process to hire 15-20 new employees in 2021
  • Build performance review process and solve internal issues
  • Identify growth opportunities for team members
  • Create reports to measure performance and provide insight to teams performance
  • Work with product to create a challenging, rewarding, and friendly environment for engineers
  • Facilitate communication between engineering, product, design and commercial stakeholders to create strategic alignment across teams
  • Identify engineering needs and communicate feedback to stakeholders

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 8-10 years of engineering experience with extensive knowledge in engineering architecture
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Has managed 10+ individuals 
  • Has been a team lead or technical team lead for multiple teams
  • Has worked directly with engineering, product, design, and QA teams
  • Has grew engineering teams, implemented hiring and onboarding processes
  • Experience in people management
  • Experience in project management 
  • Has start-up experience (sub 100 employees)
